Psilocybin to improve drinking outcomes in patients with alcohol use disorder.

Results

93 participants were randomized into a double-blind treatments of psilocybin and a placebo and evaluated across 32 weeks. Percentage of heavy drinking days for the psilocybin group was 9.7%, whereas the placebo group was 23.6%. Mean daily alcohol consumption (i.e. number of drinks per day) was lower in the psilocybin group.

Discussion

Combining psilocybin with psychotherapy showed significant decreases in number of heavy drinking days and number of drinks.
