Long-term follow-up of psilocybin-facilitated smoking cessation

Psilocybin To Treat Tobacco Smoking

Study

Psilocybin to treat tobacco smoking

Results

15 participants underwent two psilocybin treatments paired with CBT. At a 12-month follow up, 10 participants (2/3) were confirmed smoking abstinent. At long term follow up (average 30 months or 2.5 years later), 9 participants remained smoking abstinent and 13 participants (86.7%) rated the psychedelics experiences among the five most personally meaningful and spiritually significant experiences of their lives.

Discussion

Psilocybin and other psychedelics may be effective at promoting long-term smoking abstinence and potentially other substance use issues.
